Happy Fall Y'all

Happy Fall Y’all!
Thanks to Amanda for the great craft hosting, even with a little boy with a rash!  We were missing quite a few of you, hope that everyone is getting better / doing well.   Most importantly, you missed the best pumpkin dip ever.  Amanda brought it and I am officially requesting that we have it at every craft event.  So Yummy!  Some of you may know, my sisters and I have a special place for all things pumpkin until Thanksgiving day when pumpkin overload has set in!
This week we made really cute door hangers and decorative plaques out of chargers.  My Mom managed to take a picture with her cell phone …. Not the best photo, but the outputs were very cute in real life.
We were joined by two new crafters, Julia (Amanda’s sister) and Gail (Brooke’s mom).  We enjoyed having them and hope they will come back again soon!

So … ideas on the table for the next meeting/s –
  • My Clay Ground – some of you may remember there was a group coupon thing, I think through plum district a few weeks ago.  http://myclayground.com/mainmenu.html  Thursday nights there are Ladies Night (Does this make anyone else break out into song .. "and I'm feeling right, oh yes its ladies night, oh what a night").  Thursday, November 3rd, might be a good night.  After Halloween and trick or treating candy, everyone will probably be longing for a night out.  My Clayground requires an RSVP so, let’s take a vote and try to get a headcount.

  • Kids Craft Club Event -  Brooke had a great suggestion of doing an event with the kiddos.  She suggested making holiday ornaments.   There are a really cute christmas tree made of footprints on pinterest and hand print santa and moose pictures.  I am not sure if someone feels they have room to host this?  I do not think that my house will hold us and the kiddos.  I would be glad to handle a craft or craft station if someone else wants to host?

  • Jewelry Making – Gail suggested hosting at her home in the near future and making another kind of jewelry.  Gail is one of the craftiest ladies I know!  She does wire wrapping, so neat.

  • Gingerbread House making - Julia suggested this great idea.  I have to admit I initially said this would be a good kiddo event ..... maybe not with all the sugar and candy.  Barb, a fellow crafter, has four daughters.  Every year the Taylor girls and Lovatt girls try to get together for gingerbread making.  Nothing fancy, we just use graham crackers, but it always becomes one huge giggle fest and sugar overload and we are adults.  I would love to learn how to make a real ginerbread house, and get some practice in ..... the Taylor/Lovatt girls sometimes get a little competitive with all the sugar over load and maybe this year I can win.

So these are the ideas on the table.  Without Laura there to keep me on track, I did not book the next meeting, but I have faith that we can figure it out over email.

Best,
Portia

Rockin' the Burlap!

The above picture says it all friends...HUGE mess, highly flammable supplies, and an open flame. That is the picture of a really fun night!

Just jumping in to pat Portia on the back! Double thumbs-up to you, Portia!
Woo-Hoo! Thank you, Portia for a super fun and super messy craft night! I think everyone loved it and we really appreciated all of your effort and preparation.
Brooke and Julie you were missed but, we all look forward to seeing you when we meet at Portia's on October 2nd. Amanda is going to be planning something fabulous for us all to work on and use our super crafting powers.

AWESOME CRAFT NIGHT!

Way to go Colleen and Laura, best hosts ever!

Okay so I have to admit that last week was pretty stressful. I had a broken air conditioner, was sleeping on the floor, had a broken tooth fixed, I really love time at the dentist, and frankly a broken attitude.  Craft night was unfortunately just one more thing I had to do.  Boy was I wrong, it was just what the doctor ordered!  I had such a great time and have found a new craft that I L-O-V-E.  Thanks again to Laura and Colleen for being such awesome hosts.  I know that many of the crafters were aware of the card making world, but I have a new hobby!  Yippee.

So, back to the name.... how about "Girls night IN."  Cory gave me this idea as she was talking about how nice it was to get out of the house and have the card making ready to go.  This was of course as she was explaining to me all the neat tools and applications available.  Thanks Cory!

Or how about "Just What the Dr. Order'"

Just some thoughts ladies.  Keep 'em coming and until then we can keep the R!

Okay - Onto the some House Keeping (Laura don't be afraid)

Next Meeting - Friday, September 2nd, 7:00 pm
Location:  Portia's House - Athena and I will both be sneaking out of work to get home - maybe a pizza night ladies...
Craft:  TBD - Feel free to share any ideas you have

Next, next meeting, Sunday, October 2nd, 3:00
Location:  Portia's House
Craft: TBD

Finally - there are two easy and quick crafts that I would like to have as back ups for the future... can you please start saving the canisters that your Clorox type wipes come in when you are done with them and also different types of wine bottles?  I will find links and share them on my new pinetrest site for you soon. Thanks!
Pictures will be coming soon.  Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Flip Flops for my Fashion-ista

I used to read a book or watch some great HGTV before I went to bed at night.  For my birthday in May my family treated me to an ipad.  Yippee.  Now I spend my time before bed surfing the blog  world and half paying attention to the real housewives of somewhere on tv.

During one of my insomnia filled evenings I came across this adorable flip flop tutorial http://www.infarrantlycreative.net/2011/05/decorated-flip-flops.html  and thought they would be great for my little fashion-ista niece Lolly.  She would love getting to pick her shoe accessories each day, yes one more accessory.  Maybe a new choice added to her morning routine will buy my sister a few more minutes of morning peace.
This idea was bouncing around in this ping pong /slot machine brain of mine for a quite a few weeks.  Finally I found a moment to sit down and work on them.  The tutorial called for snaps to hold the bows on, these were too wimpy for my tough kids, so I ended using some heavy duty velcro that Athena already had at the house.

My other niece could care less about bows and glitz, she is more into gabba and skate boards.  When I found this post http://www.infarrantlycreative.net/2011/07/monkey-and-frog-hair-clips-east-coast-mommy.html  with these cute monkey and frog hairclips, I thought those would make cute shoe toppers for Kathryne.  Below is my attempt at them.  None of them are perfect, but my girls loved them.

So this past weekend after lunch at Cheviche on Canton St. (yummy!), I wandered over to the Chandlery and found an adult version of the same thing.  http://www.lindsay-phillips.com/  They are 50% off this week.  My feet are too big for theirs so I am thinking about making my own.  This will be a great way to make my men’s, basic black, reef’s, the summer go to shoe in my house, look pretty and girly.  Here is a tutorial I found for the adult version.  http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2010/03/interchangeable-flip-flops.html  Is anyone else interesting is trying with me?  This might be another fun idea for a future meeting.   We could make them for the adults or the kiddos, the boys might love some with little cars or super heroes.

Portia

R Name??

Okay so I know that Athena does not love our name.  I also got the impression from Colleen's eye rolling that she is not in love with it either.  I am out of ideas for a new name, but have a great blog for you to check out that might offer some inspiration.  Crafting Chicks... they are so cool.  http://thecraftingchicks.com/2011/01/photo-wreath-valentines-day-style.html
I think that they started out kindof like we did, now they have a fancy site and all do postings that are based around each of their different strengths.

I also love this picture wreath and think it would look great on any of our mantels.  We should keep it as an idea for an upcoming craft night.

I have to admit, while this looks awesome, the idea of having to cut circles out scares me way more than necklace knots.

Hope you are all having a great week!  Can't wait for our next craft.

Best,
Portia

Jewelry Making - Mastered

Okay, so not really mastered, but thanks to Lindsay's great guidance we all went home last weekend with a great new piece.  Thanks to everyone for coming, it was such fun!

I was quite under the weather last weekend so I also have to thank Mom, Athena, Katie and the little girls for all their help getting the party ready.  It turned out wonderfully.  We had Athena's salad with homemade dressing from Kathy.  Rob grilled chicken and make a fresh loaf of wheat ground bread.  Katie treated us with cookies from Alpine Bakery, yum!  Amanda also brought some treats and goodies including ?Macosta? wine?  She said it is a sweet dessert wine.  I have not tried this before and I looking forward to having some soon.  Have you tried it?  Do you have a favorite wine flavor?

I have to admit the the best crafting of all may have taken place the day of the party in my yard.  I was sick in bed and Athena went into her awesome take over mode and decided that my yard needed an HGTV makeover, courtesy of Athena, Grandma Liz, and the little girls (who added broken water balloons and chalk pictures to the design).

I think that Brooke took a few pictures for us of the night.  I hope that she will share them with us soon.  Can you believe that we forgot a camera for our first meeting?  I hope that Athena will also post some of my awesome yard makover.  Everyone probably got to see it since they had to walk in the yard, not the driveway :) but daylight photos do it more justice.

I can't wait for our next meeting.  We are all brainstorming ideas and should nail down a date soon.  I remember Colleen talking about dates that would and would not work, did we decide on one?

Best,
Portia

I had so much fun that I am thinking that we could meet again in just a few weeks at my place. We are looking for any and all ideas about future projects and meetings. Please share your thougts. No Worries!

For anyone who does not consider themselves very crafty, don’t worry! I’m the least crafty sister, but I’m excited to try and learn new things. This is really a passion for both Portia and Athena (anyone who has seen or been on the receiving end of either of my sister’s “projects” would know what I’m talkin’ about). So, even if you don’t share the same crafting passion as these two “Martha Stewarts,” come join our club and have some fun!

P.S. Colleen, I heard you thought my owl painting was the best!

Let'ssss get it started!

Singing like Fergie, "Let's get it started." I am so excited that we are finally getting it together. This is going to be fun. Let brainstorm and come up with a new name. Bring your ideas to our first meeting. Way to get the ball rolling Portia! I can't wait to see you all there.

Your new crafting buddy,
Athena

Welcome to RCC

Do you get the R?  It is a play on Our and R for Roswell the common thread that will tie us all together.  We have all lived, worked, played, or gone to school here.  Athena thinks that we can do better, maybe we can.  We have to start somewhere, so this is R beginning.

We are getting exciting and have been working behind the scenes for R first meeting.  We have all talked about it enough between chats and facebooks posts, so here we go.

Our first meeting will be on Saturday, 7/9/11 at 7:00 at Portia's house.  Please email for directions.

We will have a very special guest for our first meeting.  Lindsay Pearlman of Ella Hayes Jewelry will be joining us and guiding us with her knowledge and supplies as we make a unique jewelry piece each to take home.  http://www.ellahayes.com/  Her website will show you some of her awesome designs.  Mom, Athena, Katie, and I had the pleasure of making some pieces with her a few months ago and had so much fun.  The materials and expertise cost for this first meeting will be $20.  We do not expect our future crafts to cost this much, but thought that Lindsay would be a nice splurge for our first meeting.

Please bring yourself, and your creativity.  We look forward to seeing you.  An RSVP by Thursday, 7/7 is appreciated.

Best,
Portia

PS - Have a crafty website you love, or idea for R next RCC meeting? If so email us or post it to our craft club.  Like normal ladies clubs (book clubs, tennis clubs, etc.) we will schedule the detials of our next event before we close R evening on the 9th.
